COVID-19 Response
COVID-19 Response
In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Mantua Civic Association in collaboration with local community organizations, developers and volunteers, we have been able to help and support many seniors, families and children in the Mantua community.
Through many hours of hard work, Sam Samuels, our Outreach Coordinator has been able to ensure that the children of McMichael School receive the School District of Philadelphia meals. She has worked to make certain that our Seniors throughout the entire community have access to healthy food sources and cleaning products.
From delivering groceries and cleaning supplies to supporting safe fun cultural activities for the Zoo for families, we continue to strive to inform and engage the residents of Mantua during these uncertain times.

In this historically rich majority African American community, the poverty rate is over 50%, twice Philadelphia’s overall rate. The COVID-19 pandemic has compounded our community’s existing concerns, including limited access to affordable healthy food options. Mantua’s status as a food desert makes gift cards and the potential for food pick-ups the most desired options for seniors with limited transportation. Therefore, we’re raising funds in order to support our community’s capacity to respond to the urgent needs in the community.
